Martial Arts Training and Fat Loss Nutrition

So, I’ve decided I’m getting back into competition. Saturday, September 25th is the Michigan Cup Championship, and it’s my first competition in almost 10 years! I’ve done some sparring, but only in class. I’ve branched out into other styles, with kickboxing, grappling, etc. But this is the first time I’ve been entered in a Taekwondo competition and had to worry about cutting weight!

I realize that if I want to be competitive, I have about 15 pounds of fat I need to burn off my body first. And I have 3 weeks to do it.

So I’ve been doing some research and trying to figure out how to lose fat and still maintain a lean body mass. I came across something called

The Diet Solution Program

I signed up for the free email newsletter, and I’m following it very closely.

Day 1: 3 minor changes to my diet –

  1. Anything white – Yes white foods: white bread, pasta, sugar, white rice, and most milk products. This statement doesn’t include cauliflower, chicken, turkey, fish. Those are actually healthy and nutritious. Everything else is just empty calories with little to no nutritional value. Only problem I might have here is the white rice. I did live in Korea for a year, after all…
  2. Drink nothing but water – Ok, this one seems pretty easy… oh… No alcohol… I can make the sacrifice for 3 weeks for this competition and a better body.
  3. No wheat – What? I thought it was healthy? well I found out it converts to sugar in the blood stream causing insulin spikes and wheat also causes tissue inflammation which slows fat loss and muscle recovery. Very interesting. Well, I don’t think it’s gonna kill me to cut that one out either.

If I can keep this up for 2 weeks, then maybe I’ll have an extra edge in my training. In the mean time, I’m gonna be drilling hard for the next few weeks. I’ll post my progress in the next few days. Try out The Diet Solution Program for yourself and let me know about your results.
